The 7th generation of the Volkswagen Golf is the undisputed star at the VW stand in Switzerland. The German manufacturer has choosen the 83rd International Motor Show in Geneva to introduce the world to two of the most eagerly awaited variants of the new hatch – the Volkswagen Golf GTI, the GTD – but there are also other interesting models on display, most notably the Cross Up! and the futuristic XL1, the car that will travel for 100 km with just 1 liter of fuel. However, the hot hatch is the model in the spotlight, and here is a nice and exclusive video showing the actual presentation of both the GTI and GTD.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI Mark 7 is powered by a 2.0 TFSI engine producing 220 horsepower with a maximum torque of 350 Nm which allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 246 km/h (152 mph). Then again, for the first time in the history of this icon model, a special GTI Performance package will be offered, boosting its power up to 230 hp.
Both GTI versions are equipped with a Stop-Start system, fulfil the EU-6 emissions standard that takes effect in 2014, come with a 6-speed gearbox and boast a 18% improvement in fuel economy compared to the previous model. With the optional 6-speed DSG instead they consume 6.4 and 6.5 l/100 respectively (equivalent to 148 and 150 g/km CO2).
